Welcome to the Doing it for Daniel Foundation

Doing it for Daniel Foundation provides financial assistance for children and young people with a cancer diagnosis at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre by funding special gifts, experiences, days and holidays. We treat each application individually and support children in whatever way we can. We also support brain tumour research, particularly focusing on the childhood brain cancer DIPG.

Daniel’s Beach House is a luxury, ground floor apartment just one street away from the beachfront and within walking distance to Ayr town centre and train station.

Specifically designed to allow families to have time and space for a relaxing break away, during or after their child’s cancer treatment. Families who have lost a child to cancer can also apply.

Today we sent funding to a teenager who has gone through cancer treatment to attend an outdoor music festival. Children and young adults with cancer want nothing more than for life to be ordinary, enjoying the things we all love. We hope this teen has the best time and we wish them nothing but good health and happiness 💛🎗️

Today we sent a grant to the family of a two year

Today we sent a grant to the family of a two year old dealing with relapsed brain cancer. This is for a trip to Crieff Hydro. We hope the family make some precious memories there 💛🎗️

On national siblings day we celebrate all our wond

On national siblings day we celebrate all our wonderful brothers and sisters and the constant support they give us. Also the friends who are like family to us, the ones who are always walking beside us. The sibling relationship is the one that usually lasts from birth til death. Most people spend approximately 80% of their time with their siblings. It’s such an important relationship. To lose a sibling so young, especially an only sibling is huge. Sending so much love to all our friends in the childhood cancer community living without their sibling 💛🎗️

Today we helped 4 children dealing with the devast

Today we helped 4 children dealing with the devastation of a cancer diagnosis. We bought a tablet for a little one starting school this year. This child is currently going through chemotherapy. We provided grants to the other families. One wanted a new electric bed. Leukaemia has made things very difficult for this teenager. Another wanted new clothes and days out. The final child we helped is 5 and the family needed a new suitcase for trips in and out of hospital and some new toys 🧸. These gifts are sent from Daniel and all our charity supporters (that’s you! 🥰) with huge amounts of love 💛🎗️

One of my best friends sent me this photo - me and Daniel so happy. I hadn’t seen it before. It just sums up everything about Daniel. Always smiling. Always the centre of attention. So full of nonsense and life. The happiness at being alive was always bursting out of him. This year his friends are turning 21. It absolutely kills me to see photos knowing my boy isn’t here enjoying his special birthday and his wonderful life. The grief is overwhelming right now. When you lose a child you live with grief for the rest of your life. It must be given its place but also kept in check or it will destroy you. You break down so often but then you take a huge breath and carry on. We live on for Daniel and try to give back to children and families who are walking our path. We do it for you Daniel. We miss you so much son ☀️💛🎗️

Pause. Think before you speak. Try to have empathy. Dealing with the devastating loss of a child is like no other grief. Studies have shown that parents who lose a child are at a higher risk of death from diseases like cancer and suicide. Living with such a huge trauma has an impact on the body and the mind. We have met so many incredible people who are trying their best to carry on and lead positive lives after child loss. Of course nothing compares to our children who faced death so bravely. Happy Easter to all our incredible friends in the childhood cancer community who have lost a child. Holidays are especially hard. In your darkest hour, please know you are not alone. To all the children dealing with cancer that we have supported this year we send huge love and every positive thought we can 🐣 💛🎗️

Daniel’s dad Brian and his brother Saul travelled through to Edinburgh to watch the boys from Edinburgh and Bristol universities playing their charity football match today. This was organised by Daniel’s best friends from our time in London. Matthew and Ben are twins and Daniel had very happy times of friendship with them. Thank you to all the young people who took part and donated. You are very special. Your money will help other young people devastated by the biggest cancer killer of children and young adults- brain cancer. Still time to donate and even a few pounds is greatly appreciated. Daniel’s charity is all about young people. Every young person deserves the chance to grow up. We all miss you so much Daniel. Today we sent funding to the families of 2 childre

Today we sent funding to the families of 2 children aged 6 and 11 receiving treatment for cancer at the Schiehallion ward at the RHC in Glasgow. This will allow the families to buy some nice gifts and pay for days out. We also heard from one of Daniel’s close friends from the time we lived in London. Matthew and Daniel became friends at school and Matthew is now a student at Edinburgh University. He has organised a charity football match, raising money for Daniel’s charity. We are so grateful to this incredible young man and all the other students who are involved at Edinburgh and Bristol universities. Daniel would be so grateful too. Unfortunately with some of our posts we get all sorts of unsavoury scammers commenting, sending messages, etc usually with their cures for cancer. Sometimes the messages are really cruel. We block as soon as we can but these people are relentless. Just want to make people aware. Never interact with these posts if you see them before we manage to block 💛

Yesterday the weather was better in Glasgow. A decent day to kneel and clean Daniel’s grave and put some spring flowers down. It’s still very hard to accept we are tidying his grave and not his bedroom. His friends turn 21 this year. It’s so hard to see, knowing he isn’t here to celebrate his special birthday. He absolutely loved his birthday. It would’ve been a big celebration. As we approach Mother’s Day our thoughts are with all the mums we know, trying to live without their children. As a mother, the greatest Mother’s Day present is seeing your children growing up with confidence and independence. Knowing you are there if needed. Being a mum is such a privilege. Today we helped another teenager who has gone through a limb amputation due to cancer. We sent a grant to help buy equipment for starting university. We also booked a family into Daniel’s Beach House for a respite break. We are busy organising our ladies lunch fundraiser too. Thank you to everyone who supports Daniel’s charity and allows us to help so many children and families 💛🎗️
